I just finished writing Chapter 7, “The Pain of Divorce” and I came across some interesting statistics on the divorce rate in America.
It is difficult to say which statistics are fully accurate, but my research indicates that greater than 40% of marriages end in divorce.
According to enrichment journal on the divorce rate in America:
- The divorce rate in America for first marriage is 41%
- The divorce rate in America for second marriage is 60%
- The divorce rate in America for third marriage is 73%
Furthermore, for children of divorced parents it’s even worse says Christina Steinorth, California-based psychotherapist and author of “Cue Cards For Life: Thoughtful Tips for Better Relationships.” Studies indicate that daughters of divorced parents have a 60-percent higher divorce rate in marriages than children of non-divorced parents, and sons have a 35-percent higher divorce rate.
It’s starting to look like my wife and I are a statistical anomaly. We are remarried and both had children when we married. According to one study 7 out of 10 remarriages end in divorce when both parents bring children into the marriage.
In future chapters I’ll write about “The Joy of Re-Marriage” and share how we are intentionally nurturing our relationship to ensure that we remain a statistical anomaly and hopefully help others do the same.
